Commercial lighting issues are sneaky. One minute everything looks fine, and the next you've got sections of a property going dark with no obvious explanation. That's exactly the kind of call we got here - a large RV and boat storage facility with a lighting system that wasn't behaving the way it should.

The lighting control setup on this property runs through a network of contactors and a timer relay mounted in weatherproof enclosures on the structural columns throughout the covered parking area. These enclosures handle the switching for large runs of overhead lighting - the kind that keeps a big commercial lot safe and functional after dark. When one of these goes down, it's not just a nuisance. Whole sections of the property lose light, and that's a real problem for security and operations.

Our first step was working through the control circuit - tracing the signal from the IDEC RTE timer relay through the Eaton contactors to figure out where the breakdown was happening. This type of troubleshooting takes patience. You've got to understand how the timer is supposed to trigger the contactors, then test each component methodically to isolate the fault. Guessing just wastes time and can make things worse.

Once we pinpointed the issue, we got it sorted and confirmed the system was cycling the way it's supposed to. A property this size - with rows of covered RV storage running the full length of the lot and solar canopies overhead - needs reliable lighting control across a lot of circuits. Getting that system dialed back in matters.

This is the kind of work that doesn't always look dramatic in photos, but the impact is real. Reliable lighting means safer conditions for customers accessing their vehicles, and it means the property is running the way it was designed to. Commercial electrical problems don't fix themselves - and the longer they sit, the more risk they create.
